Roster Data Base Help (Ver.2.8.4) April 4, 2007)

This SCARS Membership Data Base File System offers speed, and searching capabilities. It is a straight forward system for the user. It is a CGI/Perl Script that operates at our server (Southcars.com) and is not a service provided by others.

Note, that the system is NOT case sensitive, so you can type lower or upper case.

The default search criteria that the system uses is "Call". Each of the six fields are available in the "search" window. Just click on the "down arrow" at the right side of the "Search For" window and then select one of the six fields. ( "Call" (default), "Member Number", "Name", "Address", "Birthday", or "Comments".

Then type the key word, or letters, that you wish to search for in the "search for" window and click on "go".

Obviously, the simplest, and best, procedure is to use the default, which is "Call". You no longer have to make a choice in the drop down menu. Just enter the call letters, or any part--such as the suffix, click on "Go" OR type your "enter" key and it will bring up all six fields that pertain to that search criteria. If you type in the full call, only that and the asoociated data will come up (assuming that member is in there!). If you type in a suffix, it will bring up anyone and everyone who has the same suffix. This really is nice for NCS use during the net sessions.

Another example, is to choose, "address" and type "Destin" in the search window, click on "Go" and it will bring up all of the data that pertains to anyone that has "Destin" in their address.

You want to know how many of our members live in your town, or state?? Just follow the procedures above.

You want to know which of our members have become silent keys? Choose "Comments" in the drop down window and then type S/K in the find box and click on "Go". That will bring up more than 120 silent key members.

Birthdays are now listed and searched for by typing the first three letters of the month followed by a space and then the TWO DIGIT date.

Example: To bring up all birthdays for July 14th, you select Birthdays and type in "Jul 14".

To bring up, for example all birthdays for August 2nd, you would type "Aug 02".

Note! If you are a Net Control Station Operator and would like some hints on utilizing the birthday list for net use, Click Here.

You may search full calls, call suffixes, or call prefixes in the default "call", names (first or last or the entire name in the "name" category, " or choosing "addresses" will permit you to search for streets, cities, zip codes or states.

The "comments" section contains silent keys "S/K", Net Control Stations, Managers ("MGR"), "NCS", and Alternate Net Control Stations "alt ncs". Additionally, member of the month, ncs of the month and other award recipients appear in the "comments" category.

On the other hand, let's say you, just for the heck of it, want to know how many members we have in the city of Miami. Choose "address", type "Miami" in the "find" window and that will search all the address fields and bring up all the ones that has "Miami" in it. Keep in mind that someone could live on Miami Blvd., in Sarasota, and that would bring them up too, BUT, it sure narrows the field. You can also find out how many live in your zip code area using the same procedure.

One secret to getting the most mileage out of this system is to use your browser's search, or find, feature in conjunction with the roster search. Here is an example: Let's say you are a Net Control Station and you take a list of checkins with suffix only. Let's say that one of them is "4M". Choose "call" in the "search" window then type "4M" in the find window. Hit enter and the data base will bring up ALL files that have the number 4 followed by the letter "m". You will see there are several. When you have the station check in and get the prefix, then use your browser's find feature, by clicking on "edit" in the upper left corner of your screen (some older browsers will have this under "file") and then click on "find". Type the call in and it will quickly pick the right "4M".

Finally, if you have changes, wish to request corrections to your roster listing there is a link to click that will take you to a form to complete and submit your changes. You will receive an automated reply and acknowledgement.

Have fun! 73 de Ron WA4HWN
